![]() I actually had Roon running on a separate box completely and running nothing but Roon and to my ears Audirvana sounds better, even on the same machine s as what I’m working on.Īs for MQA, well, to my old ears that have sat behind a drum kit for 20 years it sounds good. Sure, I expect this reply and loads more like it. It is strange to see how people care about cables, DACs and whatever other snake oil BS and at the same time the same people don't care about the quality of their recordings, which is actually the most important part in their entire chain, as that's what we are all listening to at the end. Maybe it sounds better to your ears, the sound is warmer, but that's only because of the distortion that the MQA format adds especially in the higher frequencies. You should however realize that you are not listening to the music as originally intended. If MQA sound great to you, then great and enjoy. ![]() I'd believe that Audirvana sounds better in your setup, but that does not seem like an optimal setup to use Roon. For best sound quality, you're supposed to have Roon core and Roon endpoint as two physically separated devices and utilizing the Roon RAAT protocol over ethernet for transport. That is not to have your Roon core running on PC and from there feeding your DAC via USB, which is how people typically compare Roon vs Audirvana sound quality. I have yet to find some solid evidence that Roon sounds better over Audirvana in a setup that is recommended by Roon. I'm not downvoting, but I have a couple of comments: I love all the snake oil I can get! Sounds great to me! Also when you add a track to a playlist in Audirvana, it replicates in Tidal as if you had just done it in the app, Roon is unable to do this also.Ĭables, to me are important as well. Couple of advantages of using Audirvana over Roon, sounds better IMHO and when you like a track/artist etc in Audirvana it syncs automatically to your Tidal account as if you've done it in the app itself, Roon doesn't do this, it's all contained within Roon's own eco system which I personally think is a HUGE flaw. I enjoy the hell out of it and think it sounds sublime. Kernel mode enabled in Audirvana with R8Brain upsampling x2 only enabled as well. I have Tidal running through Audirvana into my IFI Zen DAC V2. ![]() Don't listen to the naysayers, at the of the day, it's about the music and the experience and if you enjoy Tidal and you enjoy MQA and you are aware of the shit show that surrounds it all and are happy with your choice (as I am) then enjoy it.
